I have edited the periscope animation at the beginning to be more fast, which I think gives it a bit more character, and I have hanged the blue meanie's movement from rotating to moving backwards, which I think follows the force of the gun much better. Also I decided to stop the animation with the submarine staying put at the end to focus on the e4 logo - the theme and what is meant to be advertised.

Improvements
After completing the animation, I have taken note of some aspects of the animation that are not quite right. The positioning and the speed of the blue meanie as it comes out the hole and fires the glove, i'm not happy with, as the movement doesn't look smooth and natural.
I'm going to fiddle with the angle and the speed of the motion tweening until I'm happy with it.
I have also realised that the periscope and the blue meanie are lacking a bit in expression and movement that would make them appear more alive as characters. If the periscope was a bit more bouncy in popping up out the hole then it would appear a bit more lively. The blue meanie could possibly have a facial expression that changes to make it appear less static.
Having received the advice from my tutors to work on the animation I also want to stick to the style of animation which is very static and not particularly amazingly animated, but with artwork that gives the overall psycodelic effect.
I will look at these ways of improving my animation, but I will make sure that I don't change the style that I have portrayed effectively into something else completely.

Designs and Referencing - Characters 4
E4 Yellow Submarine - I have combined the designs for the yellow submarine and the e4 symbol together. By integrating the lines for each image and tweaking the design of the yellow submarine, I think I have successfully combined the two.
A zoomed in version of the periscope on the submarine - I have designed it so that it looks like it has a eye, like someone is looking through it, so that when it pops up from the holes it looks more effective.

Designs and Referencing
The Sea of Holes Referencing and Design. I took a look at the original animation, and the whole thing seemed to have a very roughly animated hand drawn, painted effect. It reminded me of the Monty Python animation style, which seems to have drawn influence from this film.
I have decided to use cut outs, like monty python and paint each image using watercolour to create a similar effect.
Sea of Holes references:
Looking at these I have decided to use a similar layout to the second image, as it would be easiest to create a sense of perspective and depth by resizing the cut out images.
I created the sea of holes by resizing a painted black hole and copying it multiple times to create a similar effect to the film.

Survey
I took a survey through my uni and people who don't specifically know about film that were in the age range that e4 were trying to target, and asked them firstly if they had seen the yellow submarine film, about what images came to mind and what was iconic for them about the film.
What I found was that the majority of people my age had not seen the film entirely, but everyone was aware of the yellow submarine and what it looked like. About half recognised the references that were mentioned to them - The things that were mentioned to them were: the Sea of Holes, the Blue meanies, random characters running in and out of doors, Snapping Turks, monsters eating each other and Glove.

Creating the Look:
The look of the animation is very important, as it will make the subject matter even more recognisable. I have done a few designs of the yellow submarine and it's characters to try and work out what medium to do it in.
Animation Tests:
Motion Tweening - I have been experimenting with motion tweening and how it works, and after taking a tutorial I have used it to create this bouncy ball. By manipulating the angle in which the bouncy ball is turned when it bounces and by squashing and stretching it in certain ways, I have been able to get a realistic bouncy squash and stretch effect. At first it didn't look quite right, but I figured out that you need to keep the ball in a similar place when it hits the ground for the movement to be smooth.

Yellow Submarine Clip 2
I really like the style of the rotoscoped people and the background scenery from photographed, both black and white with little colour, against the brightly coloured yellow submarine. The part in this clip that i especially like is about 6 minutes 18 seconds in where Ringo star is walking past a bridge and the submarine appears at every other gap to confuse him.
Also at about 8 minutes 50, when Fred walks into a door all the other creatures burst out of all the other doors - I this this would make a very good aspect to parody, as it's also a very famous part of the animation.

Yellow Submarine
The Yellow Submarine movie of the Beatles has some great, very stylised animation in it. I thought that maybe doing a parody of it but in the form of the ident would be effective as it is something everyone would recognise - the Beatles being known worldwide and through all age groups. Also, the music theme is very popular amoungst young adults - the target audience.
The part in this particular clip that I am particularly interested in is at about 9 minutes 8 seconds where the Beatles are jumping in and out of the black holes - as this is one of the most famously animated parts of the movie.

This video gave me the idea that I could make objects move to music - or have the objects themselves move in a rhythm that created music.
My original idea was to make an assortment of frying pans flip pancakes a beat, using the idea of the frying pan from a previous post, but as the frying pans flip up and then land, the noise made would combine to make a beat.
Previous E4 Idents
Firstly I have been doing some research into e4 idents and have found a few with styles that I really like for inspiration and so I can have a better insight into what the target audience prefers.
The one above is actually the winner of the estings challenge on E4 for creating an Ident for TV.
